2 years ago my husband and I moved into our dream home in our dream location. Only thing is, we planned on updating the finishes to be more our style. After painting EVERYTHING in our last house and the fact that we had to move out of the old and into the new on the same day we weren’t able to update anything in our new home. 2 years later I haven’t touched a thing yet. I often think about what I would do if all I did was update finishes and what I would do if I changed everything including knocking down walls, new railings, new fireplace stone, etc.
The one room I tend to think about most often is the Powder Room. Maybe because it is small enough that I feel like it’s manageable to update with 2 Toddlers at home, or maybe because it’s the room in the house that is furthest from my style currently. Or it could be the challenge of updating a bath while keeping colored fixtures.
Now you have an idea of what I’m working with. I decided to try to come up with some ideas to make the space look updated while keeping the pink sink and toilet. I lucked out in that blush is a popular color in design right now so I thought keeping these fixtures would add some blush to my color scheme and cut down on the renovation cost. While I’m not planning on doing any actual changes yet, I will show you what I would do.
1. Walls:
Remove wallpaper and paint a soft gray or put up this gorgeous Magnolia Watercolor check wallpaper.
2. Floors:
Use this trendy style stencil to create the look of ever-popular cement tiles, or use stick down vinyl tiles (not grouted, since this would be an interim renovation.)
3. Lighting:
Update the sconce above the mirror to something farmhouse and rustic.
4. Fixtures:
Update the Faucet and Towel Holders to something with a simple silhouette and black finish.
5. Accessories & Decor:
Add some wood shelves behind the toilet for pretty eye-catching accessories like a cute basket with hand towels or a pretty glass cloche.
I think this farmhouse bathroom upgrade could look pretty cute! Now if only I had a day or so of free time to get it started.
